by Mean Machine Sailing Team 21 Jul | 0 commentsThere have been 14 editions of the prestigious Breitling Regatta in Puerto Portals, Mallorca, which has also been part of the MedCup Circuit over the past few years. Peter de Ridder and his Mean Machines can be found training out in Palma de Mallorca bay, in front of the Puerto Portals area where, from today through until next Saturday, the 14th Breitling Regatta will be held.
Mean Machine has arrived in Puerto Portals, where De Ridder’s team has a summer base, eager to win the famous gold and silver cap again. Peter de Ridder, Ray Davies, Tom Dodson, Tony Rae, Jon Gundersen, Jeff Reynolds, Ed Van Pierde, Joe Allen, Stu Bettany and Chris Reid all know what winning tastes like in this regatta, which they had the privilege of winning twice over in 2006, taking home not only the overall winner’s cap, but also the gold and silver cap for the Corinthian division.
Things in the General Rankings of the AUDI MedCup are heating up, with three different winners in three different regattas so far – Peter de Ridder’s Mean Machine, José Cusí’s Bribón with Dean Barker at the helm and Quantum owned by Doug de Vos with Terry Hutchinson onboard.
Options are wide open, and whilst there are some favourites knocking at the door of this fourth AUDI MedCup event, the 11 scheduled races will be a challenge for every boat.
Mean Machine, which has already been out training in Puerto Portals, is comfortable in these waters, where an insular thermal breeze prevails.
Following 29 of 60 scheduled races the AUDI Medcup rankings look like this:
